Personal Speed Skate Care Guide

After Each Practice:
• Use skate guards when off the ice to protect blade edges.
• Dry blades immediately to prevent rust.
• Never leave wet guards on blades or put wet guards on dry blades.
• Store blades uncovered or with an absorbent cover (cloth skate covers, socks, towel).
• Check for rust and consult a coach before attempting removal.
• Report loose screws, brackets, or broken laces to a club official.
• Prevent damage by avoiding blade contact with other skates or boots.

Sharpening:
• Never use an automatic sharpener. Speed skates must be sharpened by hand.
• Use a sharpening stone and jig. Ask a coach or experienced skater for guidance.
