You can skate during: • Any public session if you keep your speed moderate. • Dedicated speed skating sessions, including: • Two public sessions for practice. San Jose Sharks and Oakland Sharks each • One exclusive session for NCSA members at San Jose Sharks Ice every Thursday.
How is speed skating organized?
We divide skaters into three ability groups: • Regular, Faster, and Fastest – all groups share the ice. • One group skates on the track while others work on technique in the center, warm up, or cool down.
How Do I Join NCSA?
Joining Northern California Speedskating Association (NCSA) is simple! We offer dryland training( off-ice workouts), ice training, and inline skating—each designed to build essential speed skating skills.
Dryland Training
Develops strength, balance, and flexibility for speed skating.
Improves technique and body control without the need for ice time.
Great for beginners to build a strong foundation before hitting the ice.
Inline Skating
Enhances skating posture, edge control, and endurance.
Helps bridge the transition between dryland and ice training.
Ideal for casual skaters or those without regular ice access.
Ice Training
Develops race technique, strategy, and speed on the ice.
Essential for competitive skaters aiming to improve lap times and agility.
The best way to experience real speed skating conditions.
