Speed Skating Safety Rules
General Safety
• Speed sessions involve high-speed training, with advanced skaters reaching 25+ mph. Cooperation is essential for a safe and productive session.
• No skating until all safety padding is up and rink doors are closed. Doors must remain closed during the session.
• Late arrivals must wait for a coach’s permission before entering the ice. Do not open the door without approval!
On-Ice Rules
• Follow the coach’s instructions. Skaters are assigned to groups based on ability and must stay in their designated group.
• Skaters may only enter or exit the ice with the coach’s approval.
• Young skaters: Do not enter or cross the track without permission. Use the restroom and bring water/jackets before stepping on the ice.
Training Structure
• The 1.5-hour session is structured for racing preparation. Skaters take turns on the track and wait in the center.
• Expect to work on 1-2 skills per session; private lessons and outside coaches are not allowed.
Parental Guidance
• If your child gets bored or needs extra attention, this session may not be a good fit.
Preparation & Nutrition
• Speedskating is strenuous! Eat carbs at least an hour before and protein within 10 minutes after practice.
• Warm up outside the rink for at least 30 minutes before the session.
